~~Great looking 8x10 photo autographed by former Vikings first ever #1 Draft Pack, former running ack and Tulane Green Wave football player...Tommy Mason.

Tommy, who played his college football at Tulane, was the Vikings first ever #1 Draft Pick and the overall #1 pick in the 1961 draft. He played for the Vikings 1961-66, Los Angeles Rams 1967-70 and Washington Redskins 1971. Tommy played in 124 career games, rushed the ball 1,040 times for 4230 yards and 32 TD’s and caught 214 passes for 2334 yards and another 13 TD’s. He also returned 46 punts for 483 yards, 45 kickoffs for 1067 yards and completed 3 of 9 passes for 95 and 2 TD’s. In 1961 he led the Minnesota Vikings in punt returns and was the Vikings rushing leader in 1962 and 1963. Tommy was the Vikings first All-Pro Selection, was named to 3 Pro Bowl teams 1962-64 and on November 17, 1963, he averaged 12.2 yards per rush against the Baltimore Colts. Thomas Cyril "Tommy" Mason (July 8, 1939 – January 22, 2015) was an American football running back in the National Football League.

College Career

Mason played college football for Tulane University.
•1959: 10 Games - 81 carries for 336 yards. 5 catches for 54 yards and 2 TD.[1]
•1960: 10 Games - 120 carries for 663 yards. 28 catches for 376 yards and 5 TD.

Professional career

Mason was selected first overall by the expansion Minnesota Vikings in the 1961 NFL Draft. In six seasons with the Vikings, he rushed for 3,252 yards and scored 28 touchdowns. In 1967, he was signed by the Los Angeles Rams. He played with the Rams for four years, but accumulated only four touchdowns and less than 900 yards. He finished his career with the Washington Redskins in 1971 before retiring.

Mason ranks seventh in total rushing yards and sixth in rushing touchdowns for the Vikings.[citation needed]

Personal

Mason married gymnast Cathy Rigby in 1972. They were divorced in 1981. He married Karen Kay Mason, in 1999. He died in hospice care at Newport Beach, California on January 22, 2015.[2]
